Ibrahim Raisi becomes Iran's new president
According to the preliminary results of the June 18 elections in Iran, the chairman of the Supreme Court Ibrahim Raisi became the new president of Iran. According to preliminary data, the conservative Raisi won 17.8 million out of 28.6 million votes cast by voters.
The Election Commission will announce the official data of the voting later.
The current president of the country, Hassan Rouhani, has already congratulated Raisi, noting that he will hand over his powers to him in 45 days.
* Raisi was born on December 14, 1960 in Mashhad. In 1980, Ibrahim Raisi received a religious education. In 1985, he was appointed Deputy Prosecutor of Tehran. In 1988, he took part in the execution of opponents of the regime. 1989 - 1994 Prosecutor of Tehran, then Deputy Prosecutor of Iran, and since 2014 - Prosecutor General of Iran.
In 2016, he headed one of the richest Funds in the Islamic world, Astan-i Quds Razavi (assets amount to 20 billion euros). In May 2017, he was a candidate for the presidency of Iran], but lost the election to incumbent President Hassan Rouhani.
Raisi is considered a conservative and anti-corruption supporter. During the pre-election debate, he said - "The catastrophic situation with smuggling. There are a huge number of ports and points in the country where unaccounted goods pass. All this is a consequence of corruption that must be eradicated."
