Russia defeats coronavirus, all restrictions lifted
Russia's Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing (Rospotrebnadzor) deems a spike in Covid-19 cases to be unlikely in Russia this summer, the service said in a statement.
"In the opinion of experts from Rospotrebnadzor research centers, a spike in infections caused by the Omicron variant is unlikely in the summer months," the statement said.
Russia has been observing a steady decline in the intensity of the Covid-19 epidemic process for the past four months, Rospotrebnadzor said.
"The weekly incidence rate is down more than 64 times (from the maximum rate of 907.6 in mid-February to 14.06 now) and keeps at the minimal levels recorded since the beginning of the pandemic. The dynamics of the coronavirus propagation coefficient and the average daily growth in new cases also demonstrate a decreasing intensity of the epidemic process," it said.
The morbidity has been steadily on decline in every age group, Rospotrebnadzor said.
"Practically all confirmed cases (93%) are mild (manifest themselves as an acute respiratory infection) or asymptomatic," it said.
"The dynamics of the Covid-19 epidemiological process in Russia corresponds to the global trends," Rospotrebnadzor said.
