France calls for UN Security Council meeting to discuss escalation of conflict on Armenia-Azerbaijan border

France has called for a meeting of the UN Security Council to discuss the escalation of the situation on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border. This is reported by RIA Novosti—and with reference to the Elysee Palace.
As reported earlier, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan of Armenia held a telephone conversation with President Emmanuel Macron of France early Tuesday morning. The Armenian PM informed that starting from midnight, Azerbaijan started provocative and aggressive military operations against the sovereign territory of Armenia—and in different directions of the border. Pashinyan expressed deep concern about the created situation, and emphasized the importance of proper reaction by the international community. President Macron, in turn, considered further escalation of tension unacceptable and stressed the need to de-escalate the situation.
Azerbaijan opened fire early hours on Tuesday near the Armenian borders. The reports have been confirmed by the Armenian defense ministry spokesperson who said that the adversary also used UAVs. The Armenian side has casualties and wounded. The Armenian death toll has reached 49. The defense ministry said it will regularly issue official reports on the situation developments.
