Armenian security chief explains decision to skip CSTO summit
Secretary of Armenia’s Security Council Armen Grigoryan has explained Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s decision to skip next week’s summit of the Russian-led Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO).
In an interview to the Public TV Company on Tuesday, Grigoryan reiterated criticism that the security bloc failed to defend Armenia against Azerbaijan's military aggression in 2021 and 2022.
"In May 2021, when Azerbaijan invaded Armenia's sovereign territory, we asked for CSTO support. In September last year, Azerbaijan again attacked Armenia and we again asked for CSTO help, but we did not receive any assistance to protect our sovereign territory,” the security chief said.
“Starting from that moment we had many questions to the CSTO, and we still have no answers to these questions. That’s among the reasons why Armenia has refused to attend the CSTO Security Council meetings,” he noted.
"We have questions regarding the conduct of the CSTO and we expect our colleagues to give answers to these questions,” Grigoryan remarked.
