I. Aliyev criticized Iran for willful renovation of a mosque in Shusha

“Foreign specialists were involved in the repair of the mosque in Shusha, and without our permission. How can you go to the territory of Azerbaijan without our permission and repair our mosque together with the Armenians? What international norms and moral framework does it fit? This is our monument and you must first ask us, and not go to the occupied lands of another country without permission,” said the head of state Ilham Aliyev during a conversation with Minister of Culture Anar Kerimov. Aliyev noted that the historical appearance of the mosque in Shusha was changed and he ordered to return the mosque to its original appearance. “We do not need this repair, we will restore the mosque anew and return it to its previous appearance,” Aliyev said.
Thus, he accused the Iranian authorities, who several years ago, at the invitation of the Armenians, took up the restoration of the Govhar Agha mosque in Shusha. After that, this mosque was declared Persian. Further, Ilham Aliyev instructed the minister to prepare a list of all cultural sites on the liberated lands. “Now we have to look at their condition on the spot, and then restore it. First, they should be inspected with the involvement of international companies, and a complete list of them should be drawn up. All destruction on the liberated lands must be documented. We will take legal steps against those responsible for this destruction, "Aliyev said.
