Snap parliamentary elections to be held in Armenia on June 20

The Armenian President's decree on calling snap parliamentary elections on June 20 came into force.
The document was signed by Armen Sargsyan yesterday, its text was published on the official website of the head of state on the same day.
It says that, based on Articles 92 and 93 of the RA Constitution, taking into account the dissolution of the parliament, early parliamentary elections are scheduled for June 20 this year.
Armenia's parliament failed to elect a prime minister for the second time on May 10, triggering its own dissolution in a final move toward early elections next month.
Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinian, who was swept to power in pro-democracy protests in 2018, resigned last month to run in an early election.
The internal political crisis in Armenia began after the defeat of the country in the Second Karabakh War. In March Pashinyan refused to resign, but set an early parliamentary election for June as he sought to defuse the country’s political crisis.
