Lavrov's planned visit to Georgia sparks outrage
The Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov's planned visit to the ministerial meeting of the Council of Europe in Tbilisi in May sparked the outrage in Georgia.
Russia's top officials have not visited Georgia since 2008. Last year the protests broke out in Tbilisi due to the Russian MP's presence at a meeting of the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly of Orthodoxy. Now Georgian officials and the deputies of the ruling party promise that in the case of Lavrov's visit, they would remind his about «the issue of the occupied territories,» reports Kommersant media.
The opposition, in turn, warned about the possible mass protests. According to the sources close to the matter, the Council of Europe demanded Georgia to provide guarantees that «unforeseen circumstances and surprises» would not occur during the meeting in May.
