Armenian nationalists try to block Russian base in Gyumri

The opposition National Democratic Pole alliance of Armenia on Sunday held another protest outside the 102nd Russian military base in Gyumri.

A large number of police force were assembled near the Russian military base.

After making speeches outside the military base, the participants of this demonstration were marching in Gyumri.

The demonstrators announce that their goal is to blockade the 102nd Russian military base in Gyumri.

The radicals expressed the opinion that it is necessary to set up tents there. However, one of the organizers, Armen Lusinyan, said that it requires a permission from the Shirak regional administration, which does not work on Sunday. In this regard, the organizers decided to end the protest action. They also expressed hope that more people would come to the next demonstration.

A similar action was held on January 8. But the police blocked the entrances to the military base before the rally started. Police officers did not allow the protesters to approach the military unit, which resulted in a scuffle, and the protesters were brought to the police station.
