Armenian expert: Yerevan demonstrates balanced approach on Soleimani's assassination

“Iran is trying to use the topic of Soleimani’s assassination in the context of diplomatic and propaganda tool against the United States. The official Yerevan’s position is balanced according to rules of diplomatic etiquette”, said Zhanna Vardanyan, an Armenian expert on Iran, in her conversation with 1in.am.
Vardanyan draws attention to the fact that the foreign ministers of Armenia and Iran discussed the situation in the Middle East caused by recent events and that on behalf of the Government of Armenia Foreign Minister Mnatsakanyan expressed condolences to the Government and people of Iran on the demise of the high ranking Iranian official. According to Vardanyan, this can be viewed as support at the first glance, but in fact expressed condolences on death of an official with no reference to person or his activities.
“Both, Iran and the United States are important friendly states and partners for Armenia, so Yerevan is trying to keep the balance. The reaction of the Ministry of foreign Affairs of Armenia concerning the incident is part of this context”, she said.
