Kassym-Jomart Tokayev assumes People’s Assembly leadership
First president of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev announced that he decided to hand over the People's Assembly leadership to current head of state Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.
"I have the right to chair the People's Assembly for life. At the same time, a number of powers are assigned to the president of the country. All affairs need to be in the hands of a single person. I decided to transfer my right to chair the People's Assembly to President Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev," Nazarbayev said during the 29th th session of the Assembly, TASS reports.
However, this does not mean that the first president is retiring - Tokayev offered him to become the honorary chairman of the Assembly, stressing that this status rightfully belongs to Nursultan Nazarbayev due to his historical services to the people and the state.
