A scandal between Armenia and Georgia is about to break out?

Georgia discovered a new way of restricting Armenian cognac exports to Russia and transited goods ae stopped now for laboratory tests, News.am reports with reference to Armenian newspaper Hraparak. The authors write that legal chaos of the 1990s is back: "It has been about two weeks since a huge jam on Gezi checkpoint on the border with Georgia ha emerged. These are trucks going to Russia from Armenia," one of the transportation representatives said. The trucks are transporting cognac alcohol. Georgian customs officers and representatives of other bodies demonstrate illegal behavior - they confiscate documents from he drivers and in fact arrest the trucks. They explain this all by laboratory test reasons, even if the goods simply transit the territory of Georgia to Russia. Transportation companies in their turn demand 20000 Armenian Drams from the owners for every single day of delay. In their opinion, Georgian authorities allow this to happen for competition reasons - they want to push Armenian alcohol from the Russian market and replace it with Georgian products.
The authors contacted the Embassy of Armenia in Georgia, where it was said that the proper steps are being taken in order to solve the issue.
