Media: US consulate was target of Iran's shelling of Erbil
The Iraqi city of Erbil was the target of a missile attack last night. According to Iraq’s Shafaq News portal, about 12 missiles were launched in the area where the US Consulate General is located.
"Rockets fell in the area of the US consulate and the Kurdistan 24 TV station in Salah al-Din in Erbil. As a result of the explosion, material damage was caused to the building of the Kurdistan 24 TV channel", the portal quoted a source in the Iraqi security services.
The Iraqi Ministry of Health has already reported that there were no casualties as a result of the rocket attack.
Western media, in turn, said that the shelling was carried out from the territory of Iran. "A US Department of Defense spokesman said the missiles were fired at the city from neighboring Iran," the AP reported.
The Iraqi counterterrorism agency only confirmed that missiles were fired at Erbil from abroad.
