Azerbaijan and Iran have agreed to accelerate the implementation of projects in the field of transport communications

A joint meeting of the Azerbaijani-Iranian economic cooperation commissions chaired by the Deputy Prime Minister of the Government of Azerbaijan Shahin Mustafayev and the Minister of Roads and Urban Development of Iran Mehrdad Bazirpasha took place in the Iranian Astara today.
The parties discussed issues related to the development of regional and international transport communications, as well as energy projects, the press service of the Cabinet of Ministers of Azerbaijan reports.
The parties stressed the importance of continuing efforts related to the development of the transit potential of the region, and considered it expedient to accelerate the implementation of projects aimed at the development and diversification of transport communications.
"In this regard, the parties agreed to accelerate measures related to the implementation of the provisions of the Memorandum of Understanding signed on March 11, 2022 between the Government of Azerbaijan and the Government of Iran on the establishment of new communication links between the East Zangezur Economic Region of Azerbaijan and the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic through the territory of Iran," the message further reads.
In addition, it is planned to complete the construction of the Astara cargo terminal by the end of next year.
The parties also agreed to complete the creation of customs and border infrastructure on the road bridge over the Astarachay River as soon as possible.
Issues of cooperation related to the use of energy and water resources were also considered. "In this regard, the importance of accelerating the work related to the early completion of the construction of hydroelectric power plants "Khudafarin", "Giz Galasy" and "Ordubad-Marazad" was noted," the press release concluded.
