Bulgarian Activists Claim Discovery of Site Linked to PMC Wagner

A
public outcry is growing in Bulgaria following a statement by civic activists
regarding the possible discovery of a site linked to a Russian paramilitary
structure. According to the Bulgarian outlet Novinite, representatives of the civic organization BOEC
(Bulgarians United with One Goal) claim they have found a facility near the
village of Kladnitsa in the Pernik region which, in their view, may be used by
the Russian private military company known as the Wagner Group.
According to BOEC leader Georgi Georgiev, the activists
came across an isolated building in a mountainous area above the village, with
access to the site strictly restricted. He claims that the area was guarded by
individuals accompanied by dogs and that the guards, according to BOEC, were
wearing clothing bearing symbols associated with the Wagner Group. In addition,
a Russian flag and emblems allegedly indicating a connection to Russian
paramilitary structures were seen on the building.
The activists said they had already submitted an official
report to Bulgaria’s Ministry of Interior, expressing concern over the presence
of armed individuals and symbols of an organization that is regarded in many
countries as a security threat. BOEC also claims that the authorities’ response
so far has been restrained, raising further questions and suspicions. Georgiev
did not rule out the possibility that some of the individuals at the site may
have ties to security services.
As of now, there has been no official confirmation from Bulgarian authorities or law enforcement agencies.
