    Erdogan discussed situation in Syria with Putin by phone

    Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan held a telephone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin, according to the press service of the Turkish President.

    It is noted that the conversation concerned Turkish-Russian relations, as well as recent events in Syria, global and regional issues. “Stating that Turkey seeks a just and long-term settlement in Syria and continues to support the territorial integrity of Syria, President Erdogan emphasized the importance of expanding opportunities for diplomacy in the region and stressed that the Syrian regime must participate in the process of political settlement. Noting that preventing harm to civilians is the most important issue in the context of recent developments in Syria, President Erdoğan said that Syria should not become a source of further instability and that Turkey is doing its best to restore calm in Syria. President Erdogan said that Turkey will continue to maintain its resolute stance in the fight against the PKK terrorist organization and its henchmen who are trying to take advantage of the latest developments in Syria,” Erdogan's office said in a statement
