The Armed Forces of Ukraine have broken through a new section of the border near Belgorod
As of March 24, 2025, the Armed Forces of Ukraine made new attempts to break through into the Belgorod region of Russia.
Since March 18, Ukrainian troops have tried to cross the border in the area of the Krasnoyaruzhsky district, capturing territory from 500 meters to 2 kilometers deep into Russia and up to 10 kilometers along the front south of the settlements of Demidovka, Grafovka, and Prilesye.
On the evening of March 24, the Ukrainian forces launched an offensive in the area of Belgorod's Popovka and nearly occupied Demidovka, which has been under assault for a week. However, the Russian Armed Forces repelled these attacks, pushing the Ukrainian troops back from the Demidovka area into the Sumy region of Ukraine.
A source close to the Ukrainian Armed Forces confirmed to Bild that the goal of the offensive in the Belgorod region is to create a buffer zone on Russian territory, with the plan to prevent an advance into the Sumy region.
