EU Mission in Armenia First Acknowledges Armenian Genocide — Then Backs Down

The European Union Mission in Armenia has found itself at the center of a scandal after posting — and then quickly deleting — a message on X (formerly Twitter) that referred to the Armenian genocide in the Ottoman Empire.
The deletion was quickly spotted by the Telegram channel "Sputnik Armenia." Armenian news agency Armenpress also confirmed that the original statement used the word "genocide," quoting the mission as saying: "Today we honor the memory of the victims of the Armenian genocide. This day reminds us of the urgent need to prevent such atrocities from ever happening again."
However, in a new post, the EU Mission chose much softer wording, referring instead to the "Armenian victims of 1915–1923." This sudden change triggered a wave of criticism from users demanding the EU call things by their proper name. "Why did you delete the previous post? Don't you like the truth?" one user commented.
Interestingly, in October 2024, Armenia’s Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan stated that securing international recognition of the Armenian genocide is no longer a key priority in the country’s foreign policy agenda.
