Ukraine and Russia Agree to Meet in Turkey: A New Chapter in Negotiations?

After a prolonged diplomatic lull, representatives of Ukraine and Russia have confirmed their intention to hold bilateral talks on neutral ground in Turkey. Preparations for the negotiations are already underway, and the meeting could take place in the coming weeks.
According to preliminary reports, the parties plan to discuss humanitarian corridors, prisoner exchanges, and possible steps toward de-escalation in frontline areas. Turkey, which has previously acted as a mediator in talks, has once again expressed its readiness to provide all necessary conditions for constructive dialogue.
“We hope this meeting will be a step toward restoring trust and reducing tensions,” the Turkish side stated.
For Ukraine, participating in the talks is an attempt to gain international support and outline clear security conditions. Russia, in turn, seeks to demonstrate its willingness to engage in dialogue amid growing pressure from the West.
Experts note that Turkey was not chosen by chance: Ankara maintains close ties with both sides and has experience in balancing the interests of Kyiv and Moscow.
Whether this meeting will yield real results remains to be seen. However, the very fact of the agreement is already an important signal that diplomatic channels remain open despite months of silence.
