Georgian President Pardons Opposition Leaders: “Lelo for Georgia” Returns to Politics

The
President of Georgia has signed a decree pardoning the leaders of the
opposition party “Lelo for Georgia”,
Mamuka Khazaradze and Badri Japaridze. The decision lifts all restrictions on
their electoral activities and paves the way for their participation in the
upcoming municipal elections scheduled for
October 4, 2025.
Political analysts note that this move could significantly
affect the balance of power in the election campaign, intensifying competition
between the ruling party and the opposition.
Meanwhile, the Secretary General of the ruling Georgian Dream party
and Mayor of Tbilisi, Kakha Kaladze, stated that the opposition’s expectations
of major political changes would not be realized.
“There will be no revolution in the municipal elections”, – Kaladze emphasized.
Experts link these statements to the ongoing protests in
the country and the high level of political polarization.
