Georgia must talk with Russia, Nino Burjanadze says
Cooperation with Russia and joint solution of bilateral problems are necessary, first of all, for Georgia itself, ex-speaker of the Georgian parliament Nino Burjanadze said, commenting on statements by a number of politicians seeking to form a negative image of Russia for voters and discredit opponents.
"Politicians are trying to accuse Russia in all problems. In the mass consciousness, especially among young people, the image of Russia is extremely negative," she said.
According to her, the current government continues the course of Mikhail Saakashvili's team, for which cooperation with Russia was tantamount to betrayal. “This was facilitated by the policy of the National Movement and Mikhail Saakashvili,” she said, noting that at the same time an “anti-Russian trend” emerged, a stereotype was formed and common sense was lost.
Over time, this stereotype became a kind of political weapon directed against the opposition. “If you want to discredit a politician, you call him pro-Russian,” she told Kommersant. The politician added that in this regard, some sane statesmen may lose a significant number of voters.
"I believe that we should talk with Russia to solve our problems," Nino Burjanadze expressed confidence.
