Situation along Armenia-Azerbaijan border relatively stable, army chief says

The situation along the Armenia-Azerbaijan border remains relatively stable despite occasional gunfire from Azerbaijani forces, according to Lieutenant General Edward Asryan, Chief of the General Staff of the Armenian Armed Forces.
“Yes, there is still gunfire, but it’s not targeted,” Asryan told reporters on Wednesday, adding that the Defense Ministry issues statements only when shootings are targeted.
"We believe Azerbaijani gunshots are aimed at exerting psychological pressure on Armenian servicemen and border residents. However, Armenian forces refrain from retaliation and remain focused on their daily responsibilities," the army chief added.
He noted that reconnaissance is ongoing and no major provocations have been observed deep within the border areas.
When asked whether he agrees with Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s claims that peace is achievable and war is unlikely, Asryan responded, “The prime minister, in his official capacity, is also the army’s supreme commander. If he expresses such confidence, he must have strong grounds for it."
