European Court: Azerbaijani Authorities to Pay EUR 25000 to Khadija Ismayilova

The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) today announced a decision on the complaint of the journalist Khadija Ismayilova about the illegal arrest in December 2014. Subsequently, she was imprisoned for 7.5 years on charges of economic crimes, Turan reports.
The European Court found a violation of Ismayilova’s rights under Articles: 5 (right to liberty and security of person); 6 (right to a fair trial); 10 (freedom of expression); 18 (Limits on the use of restrictions on rights) and decided she should be paid cash compensation in the amount of 25 thousand euros.
This is the second decision of the ECHR in the Ismayilova case. Earlier, the European Court ruled that it was unlawful to interfere in the journalist’s personal life when covert filming was carried out in her apartment and shots were distributed on the Internet.
